You are ABSOLUTELY correct, adorevintage. Instead of enjoying collecting, we are all spending our time what we shoud hurry up and order next because it could be gone whenever.
I'm tired of it.

I'll never forgot in 2001 when my only job was a babysitter, working for next to no money, and I was saving up for Josefina's piano and I almost had enough and suddenly it was gone...

Give me a break! What is wrong with you people? You aren't even replacing the old retired stuff with anything better or as good.
They take all of Pleasant's original ideas and they turn it into cheapish Mattel garbage!

I agree. Mattel is ruining American Girl. They are making it more commercial (like rows and rows of toys in a discount store) and less like the original company with unique dolls who had a history. Ever since Mattel took over Pleasant Co. they have retired all of the wooden, intricate accessories and replaced them with cheap plastic items. They took the historical books and combined them into a story book, but took out the "Peek into the past" (the clear POINT of AG historical dolls). Mattel took over a company which was not broken and attempted to "fix it" by taking away everthing that was American Girl and recreating Barbie! This is such a dishearting and touchy subject that sickens me to think I dreamed of one day having all things AG and am now breaking the bank to scrape up the last of the historical items and attempt to complete my collection via e-bay. Very sad indeed Mattel, Shame on you for ruining such a wonderful and unique company!

The only money I get is from chores and babysititng also....so if they retire the Addy outfits I want (actually they ALREADY have retired my VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY favorite dress, the pink one) I am going to be VERY mad. Plus the numerous Samantha outfits...
Ok, people, I'm going to explode in this post, but please, don't hurt me!!!
~~~
Mattel, a company, a very big company, buys little companys, and turns their awesome products into garbage. Compare a PM Samantha to a Mattel Samantha. Which is worse? Which is best? Mattel; most likely worst.
Ok, here goes...
OMGOSH, MATTEL, PULL YOURSELVES TOGETHER! KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO THOSE PEA-SIZED BRAINS!!! VITAL PARTS OF COLLECTIONS ARE BEING RETIRED! LISTEN TO US!!! WE ARE BETTER THAN YOU!!! LISTEN UP! DON'T RETIRE VITAL PROUDUCTS, AND WE WON'T HURT YOU! GOT IT???
MATTEL IS NOT THE WAY TO GO! WHY PAY ZILLIONS OF MONEY ON EBAY WHEN YOU CAN GET IT DIRECT FROM AG? OH YEAH, MATTEL TURNED IT INTO garbage, AND THEN RETIRED IT! *gives evil eye to Mattel *
Ok, I'm done, because I can't think of anything else to say, and I have a malt-ish shake-ish type thing calling my name!
Protesting will not do anything. Especially one (or even a few people) deciding to stop buying AG. If everyone on this board stopped buying AG right now, it wouldn't do anything to their total income.
Personally, I don't care all that much about the retirements. As I said in the Molly thread, all companies retire things. Just most that are collectible (and, honestly, aimed at kids or not, AG knows there's a large adult group of collectors), they tell you in advance that something is retiring, so you can buy it before it goes away. I wish AG would extend this politeness a bit better. If they're totally getting rid of something (outfit, accessory, whatever), there should be a new page on the sale section on the site, just for those items, "Retiring-Final Product Run" so you know that if something is there, you have to buy it before it's gone.
If anyone really wants to make a mark in getting their attention, you'll have to write letters (snail mail is MUCH better than email as one could make up email addresses and send extras pretending to be different people), and call them. Internet petitions won't do a thing. If we could start like chain mail type home address petition, that might make them think, if everyone here signed it. Probably it would be best to wait until the Molly items are released, though, and we have something to complain about not just "we heard that...."
Edit because I wrote "chaim nail" instead of "chain mail," lol.
This is really pathetic. Mattel is annialating (sp?)the whole thing. It's like they do not grasp the point of the dolls. Or their collections. What will they do with Molly's summer story then? That's like the point. They made collections off their stories, or stories off their collections, whichever came first. Just like I don't see the point in retiring some of the girls' school accessories and leaving the others. Why? The point is to show the different changes and development through history to bring it to life for children and teach them different things. So then why leave Kirsten's school stuff, but take away Addy's? And now removing Molly's Camp Gowonagan, which is such a thing for children of the 1940's. What for???????? Honestly, Mattel, have a clue!
